At each stage you will kill 10 normal monsters. The 11th enemy will be a boss. Bosses have significantly more health than a normal monster. You have 30 seconds to kill a boss or you will fail. Failing decreases your tap damage by 5% for 10 seconds and puts you into a mode of killing normal monsters until you choose to try again by pressing the "fight boss" button again.
Every stage ending in a 5 or a 0 will be a Regular Boss instead of a Mini-Boss. Unlike mini-bosses, a Regular Sized Boss has risks for not killing quickly enough. They have the ability to kill one or more of your hired heroes, losing any stats that hero would normally give. It should be noted that for the first 5 seconds, the Boss cannot kill your heroes. Because of this, it is not recommended to attack Regular Bosses unless you know you can kill them in this time frame.
Notes[]
At Stage 80 and beyond, bosses on stages ending in 0 will drop relics.
The bar below the health bar on a boss or mini-boss is the time which allows the user to keep track of their pacing for killing the titan.
A Boss will drop 10x the amount of gold as a normal monster.
Using the Perk "Guardian Shield" protects your heroes from being killed by a Regular Boss for 24 hours. The hero death animation can still happen but no hero will be harmed.
A boss cannot kill a hero until Stage 50.
The number of normal monsters you fight each stage can be reduced by the Worldly Illuminator artifact.
The amount of time you have to kill a boss can be extended by the Savior Shield artifact.
A boss's health can be reduced by up to 50% by the Dark Cloak of Life artifact.
The amount of gold a boss will drop can be increased by the Knight's Shield artifact.
The chance a Regular Boss will kill one of your heroes can be reduced by up to 50% by the Otherworldly Armor.
Normal Monsters[]
Each stage you will fight up to 10 normal monsters. There is a wide variety of shapes and sizes, but they are all essentially the same. Despite being "Enemies" they cannot hurt you or your heroes. They drop gold upon death. There is roughly a 0.5 second to 1 second gap between when the next monster will appear.
Notes[]
The number of normal monsters you fight each stage can be reduced by the Worldly Illuminator artifact.
The amount of gold a normal monster can drop can be increased by the Amulet of the Valrunes artifact.
It is possible to never fight normal monsters if you have a 100% chance to spawn Chesterson using the Crown Egg artifact.
Chesterson[]
Chesterson is a special titan that looks like a mimic, or a golden treasure chest. Upon defeat Chesterson will drop roughly 10x the amount of gold as a normal titan. He is a rare spawn (2% Chance) that can show up on any stage in the game. The Crown Egg artifact increases the chance of Chesterson appearing by "20%" of the original chance. Therefore every 5 levels of Crown Egg will increase the chance of him appearing by 2%. Getting this artifact to level 245 will result in 100% chance to have Chesterson spawn.
The amount of gold dropped by Chesterson can be upgraded by certain Heroes such as Hornetta or Mila. The Chest of Contentment artifact can also be used to increase the gold received from Chesterson, despite the ingame description referring to a "Gold Treasure Box Chance". Each level of Chest of Contentment will increase the amount of gold dropped by 20%.
Strategy[]
If you are ever feeling stuck and dont have enough damage or you simply want more gold, you can force Chesterson to appear by going in and out of Boss fight. Simply press Fight Boss and then Leave Battle numerous times and each time you leave Boss fight different monster will appear. Repeat this until you find Chesterson. Kill him and then repeat as many times as you want for more gold.
NOTE: This tactic is fairly time consuming. Another way is to invites friends to a multiplayer party and farm gold that way. Your team members do as much tap damage as you on normal monsters regardless of what level you are or what level they are.
Trivia[]

The achievement given for opening X amount of chests is achieved by defeating Chestersons.
